How can I invest in something besides stocks with my 401k?

I have a 401k and I have received advice to try and get out of the market but my 401k restricts me? I was told to invest in gold but they say they only allow stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Is there anyway to invest in something besides the stock market using one of these kinds of tools?
Thank you for all your suggestions but you are not answering my question. I don’t want to know how to invest. I need ideas of how to get out of the stock market and not draw on my 401k. I believe that the technical indicators are such that the market will continue to go down and I don’t want to lose that money. Don’t tell that it’s not going to happen. If you believe that then fine but that’s not what I am asking for so please don’t put it here

Stick with what you have and balance your account between stocks and bonds. Rule of thumb. put the same percentage as your age in bonds and fixed income and the rest in stocks.
